Paloma is built around a strong group of professional educators.  The Paloma staff is caring, hard working and always seeking to improve their performance.  Our dedicated educators provide students with a rigorous academic program.  We have high expectations for all our students and provide many intervention opportunities to ensure our students master the California State Standards.  Our school has been very successful on the California State Test.  Our Academic Performance Index (API) is above 900 on a scale where 800 is considered exemplary.  We were named a California Distinguished School in 2010 which is the highest honor given by the state of California. 

I believe the most important skill taught in elementary school is to be a proficient reader.  To that end we have a school-wide reading incentive program that is very successful.  Every student in grades one through five have a personal reading goal each trimester that is established by the teacher.  We use the Accelerated Reader (A.R.) program for students to demonstrate comprehension in what they have read.  Students receive recognition for their reading at our Friday Flag Salute. 

In addition to our academic focus we seek to educate the whole child through our various exploratory programs.  We have a character trait program called The Panther Way that teaches quality traits to our students.  Positive student behavior is reinforced and encouraged in our school community.
